Make a Tassel from Chain
Tools Required:
Round Nose Pliers
Flat or Chain Nose Pliers
Side Cutters
Bead Mat
Tips:
Keep any scraps of silver or gold wire as they can be sold to metal merchants.
Use the round nose pliers as a guide for how big or small you need your loop to be; we usually grasp the wire about 1.5mm from the tip, when making normal wire wrapped loops, for this project you will need to make a larger loop to thread the chain onto and may need a larger loop when attaching the tassel to a bail or other finding.
|
|
Step 1
With the Round Nose Pliers grip the wire about 30mm from the end of the wire and about 10mm from the tip of the round nose pliers
|
Step 2
Using the tips of your chain/flat nose pliers, grab the end of the wire.
|
Step 3
Wrap the wire around the round nose pliers in the direction of 9 o’clock. |
Step 4
Moving in a continuous action go to 6 o’clock. |
Step 5
All the way to 3 o’clock. |
Step 6
Now you have formed a crossed circle.
REMOVE THE WIRE FROM THE ROUND NOSE PLIERS
|
Step 7
Thread the pre-cut lengths of chain onto the loop.
|
Step 8 You can make the Tassel as full as you like.
|
Step 9 Hold the loop with the round nose pliers, make sure all of the chain hangs freely
|
Step 10
Grip the end of the wire and wrap the wire 2-21/2 times, until your wire wrapped loop is secure. TRIM THE SHORT END OF THE WIRE
|
Step 11
Thread the cap onto the wire and then a locking bead, the locking bead must NOT be able to slide through the hole in the cap. THE LOCKING BEAD IS VERY IMPORTANT AS IT WILL HOLD EVERYTHING SECURE
|
Step 12
Grip the wire, 2mm from the locking bead, with the chain/flat nose plies.
|
Wrap the wire to from an wire wrapped loop, we have then added a Pearl and a bail to this tassel with the wire wrapped link Technique
